-Feline/Canine Pregnancy-
It's incredible that female cats and dogs can be pregnant at least twice a year. Every litter can range from 1-10 (or more) puppies/kittens . By the time the little kittens/puppies become 5-6 months old, they can be impregnated too. Now I was never good at arithmetic since I was young, but I can still kind of guesstimate that this equation can quickly multiply.
Here's how it looks, for example:
1st generation
2 (litters/year) X 4 (kittens/litter) = 8 kittens
2nd generation
Say 4 of those kittens were females and can give birth...
in addition to the 1st generation Mama cat...
(4 + 1) X 2 (litters/year) X 4 (kittens/litter) = 40
3rd generation
Again, say half of the kittens were females...
(5 + 20) X 2 (litters/year) X 4 (kittens/litter) = 200
So what can we do to prevent the over-population of kitties and doggies? Do the responsible thing and spay/neuter your cat/dog when appropriate (often when they are 5months old, preferably before they have their first heat). They are 2 ways to go about this: laser or the conventional way to spay/neuter your kitty/doggy. And yes, it may seem cruel to spay/neuter your best friend, but look on the bright side :) There are advantages to spaying/neutering your pet, such as:
- No more heat, so no more bloody spots on your Persian rugs.
- No more unwanted litters of kittens/puppies.
- Decrease...
